Job Description

As the Senior Process Development Chemist, you will be a member of the Engineering and Technology Group based at our Webster Groves Technical Center, reporting to the Technology & Engineering Manager.  You will be responsible for the development of chemical process improvements for ICL’s manufacturing operations and in the development of new products and processes.  Application of sound scientific and chemical engineering principals is essential.  This person must also be a key resource for Scientific and Technical issues and decisions in the Corporation. This role is highly independent and should function with minimal supervision.

•    Translate product functionality, characteristics, and chemistry, including synthesis as it relates to new product development and application opportunities
•    Plan and conduct lab studies to develop process chemistry and engineering knowledge
•    Plan and run pilot scale tests of products and processes
•    Design and support plant scale trials
•    Investigate plant process issues and recommend solutions
•    Develop tools and models for plant operations and to support process engineers
•    Analyze process and lab data to develop fundamental understanding of chemistry and processes
•    Communicates and cooperates with all stakeholders ensuring work is relevant and understood; providing written reports and technical presentations
•    Document all learnings and important data
•    Maintain expertise and be available to Manufacturing R&D, MTS, and Commercial to provide support on technical and scientific issues and questions
•    Provide education to plant engineers on relevant process chemistry; provide mentorship as needed
•    Suggest ideas and projects that support ICL strategy
•    Support the RC14001 Certification by proactively participating and supporting in environmental, safety and health programs 
•    Perform all tasks in safe and environmentally sound manner
•    Analyze customer and competitor process technologies for competitive advantage
•    Identify proprietary process improvements
•    Lead special projects that may be cross functional and multi-site
•    Participate in external technical and/or industrial organizations related to ICL businesses
•    Develop expertise in testing methodology critical to phosphate salts

 

What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role?
•    M.S/Ph.D. In Chemistry, Inorganic or Physical Chemistry 
•    5 - 10 Years experience in related technical area with demonstrated high performance
•    Strong Computer Skills (Spreadsheet, Database, Statistical, etc.)
•    Strong written, oral and electronic communication skills
•    Chemical process knowledge and experience
•    Ability to concurrently handle multiple tasks with conflicting priorities
•    Ability to work effectively as an individual, within a team and to lead a team
•    Ability to use broad spectrum of instrumentation effectively
•    Good working knowledge of Chemical Engineering and Physical Chemistry
•    Excellent analytical and laboratory skills
•    Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific methods
•    Excellent presentation skills, and written and oral communication skills- good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
•    Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and creative skills
•    Good working knowledge of analytical methods and instrumentation

ICL Job Level: 14-16, commensurate on skills and experience 
Annual Bonus Target: 5-12%, subject to plan provisions
Salary Range: $59K-$165K/year
