ICL Specialty Fertilizers has two manufacturing plants near the Charleston, SC area; one in North Charleston, and one in Summerville. This position will report to the Summerville facility but will be required to help at the North Charleston facility on an as-needed basis. These facilities manufacture controlled-release fertilizer brands Osmocote®, Agroblen®, and Agrocote®.  As the Plant Engineer you will have the opportunity to analyze, prioritize, design, and implement assigned projects using an optimized combination of plant and contract services. You will manage projects to ensure cost, timing, and benefits are achieved.  You will also manage plant maintenance activities and personnel along with providing process expertise and lead process optimization.  

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Execute project prioritization selection process.
  • Identify, design, manage, and implement capital projects to improves process capabilities and safety as well as new product implementation to ensure on time in full and project quality.
  • Manage on-site maintenance, professional services, contractor, and construction resources.
  • Create and update all process, project, equipment, drawings, and spare parts that are applicable to assigned projects.
  • Provide technical support to the production process, which will require being on call on an as needed basis.
  • Support and promote environment, health, safety, and security (EHSS) programs.
  • Lead initiatives to minimize production downtime.
  • Help troubleshoot and test plant equipment.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 3 or more years of experience as a Plant Engineer or similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Computer literate.  Proficient in computer networking and controls instrumentation as well as Microsoft Suite products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to regularly move and lift to 50 lbs., wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as climb stairs and ladders. 
  • Willing and able to work in confined areas. 
  • Strong environmental, health, and safety (EHS) cultural awareness.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex problems utilizing data.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to lead change.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Willing and able to work occasional weekends and holidays as well as be on call on a regular basis.

  • Experience with Microsoft Project.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell automation.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). i.e. maintenance work orders, planning, scheduling and parts inventory.
  • Manufacturing and production related experience, including co-op or internship experience.
