Senior Principal Engineer

Job Description

In the challenging world of specialty fertilizers, a company striving to keep the lead like ICL Growing Solutions needs rapid adaptation to market requests and continuous introduction of new products while keeping high quality and strict compliance with regulations. 

In this dynamic environment you, as Senior R&D principal engineer, will use your innovative and out of the box thinking to adapt and improve existing processes and develop novel technologies for the polymer coating of fertilizers. You will be directly involved in virtually all the stages of the development, with a strong focus on   scale up and start up in both pilot and production facilities. As Senior R&D principal engineer you will be leading research initiatives and propose new approaches. And with your strong engineering and project management skills you will lead ambitious projects key to ICL’s growth.  

You will be part of the R&D Engineering group in Heerlen (The Netherlands) which is part of the global ICL Growing Solutions, with possible assignments to different locations worldwide.

Position and key responsibilities
▪   Lead and manage a number of projects in the area of novel coatings for fertilizers;
▪   Define goals, set priorities and drive the project forward within budget and time.
▪  Plan needed experiments in the lab and scale up to pilot and full scale trials and lead the team executing them.
▪   Lead the engineering activities for construction and start-up of different facilities in R&D
▪   Be main R&D stakeholder in engineering of the production lines (modifications and building of new) from the conceptual design of new process to support all engineering stages to construction and start-up. 
▪ Coordinate from R&D the collaboration of the different disciplines and departments on the R&D and engineering projects. 
▪ Direct communication with higher management. Influence to steer decisions (e.g. CAPEX). 

Your profile
We are looking for a pragmatic, self-propelled person with the following profile:
▪  MEng degree in Chemical Engineering
▪  10+ years experience in equivalent industrial environment
▪  5-10 years experience in management and execution of engineering projects
▪  Affinity for innovation and R&D
▪  Excellent project management skills
▪  Proficient in reporting to different stakeholders
▪  Excellent communication skills in English (Dutch is highly appreciated)
