About the role:


Reporting to the Operations Director & closely aligned with the Production Manager, the Site Engineer will action & control the entire engineering requirements of the business.  This will include direct hands-on intervention with all plant, equipment & utilities.  Also, engagement & supervision of contractors & suppliers.  The role will help to deliver low-cost production, maximise capacity, maximise yield, minimise downtime, extend the life of plant & equipment, minimise expenditure on maintenance & repair issues.  To act as a key member of the company management team, to further the goals & objectives of the business.  The position is full-time factory based; remote working is impractical.

 

  • Manage & perform the entire factory engineering activity – both reactively & proactively.
  • Ensure that standards & requirements of Health & Safety are robustly maintained.
  • Diagnose plant failures or underperformance from an engineering perspective.  Identify solutions & implement these with both direct intervention and/or outside support.
  • Perform a full range of mechanical fitting, repairs, modifications & improvements.
  • Either be capable & qualified for performing electrical & control systems works – or be capable of instructing & supervising suitable contractors in this area.
  • Either be capable & qualified for performing welding & fabrication works – or be capable of instructing & supervising suitable contractors in this area.
  • Identify suitable suppliers & contractors.  Obtain quotations & specifications.  Appoint & instruct.
  • Assist & advise with project management activities.
  • Provide general engineering advice as needed.
  • Identify & drive improvements – through methods, layouts, equipment, maintenance, etc.
  • Maintain facilities for a workshop, tool & parts store.  Keep these in good order with an appropriate selection of spare parts to meet the likely needs of the operation.
  • Liaise with the wider business to achieve business goals & performance – in Sales, Finance, production, general management, etc.

  • Strong people relationship skills, upholding standards & rules
  • Ability to organise around a variety of tasks & liaise directly with others both internal & external.
  • High level of understanding of general engineering skills & principles.  
  • The ability to communicate engineering issues in detail with people at all levels.
  • Understanding of the production processes, production plant, & workplace environment.
  • Clear awareness of H&S principles & specific issues.  Mindful of workforce & visitor safety & comfort.
  • A figure of engineering authority, with gravitas & confidence.  
  • Team player.
  • Expertise & experience in a manufacturing environment.
