Are you an Industrial Hygienist with a least 5 years’ experience, who is enthusiastic, passionate and a team player wanting to make a difference with a can-do attitude? Someone who has a science or engineering-based background with a science-related degree, such as pure mathematics, science, engineering, or health. Experience in a high hazard environment such as production and processing industries (a mining, quarrying environment would be advantageous). Ideally the successful candidate must have experience of setting up an Industrial hygiene monitoring plan from initial conception through to delivery against the plan.


Ideally the candidates should be members of BOHS (British Occupational Hygiene Society), and membership with Faculty of Occupational Hygiene.

The Industrial Hygienist will:

Design and plan an effective monitoring plan based on a risk approach for the sites and ensure monitoring is carried out to ensure this plan is met.
Undertake surveys and evaluate risks to health in the workplace as identified by the monitoring plan.
Accurately measure and sample levels of exposure, often through precise use of specialist equipment.
Record facts or details of procedures in the workplace.
Eliminate or significantly reduce risk by making organisational changes, selecting and designing relevant facilities.
Consider all options of control, such as ventilation, containment and personal protective equipment and find cost-effective solutions.
Compile data write reports and present findings to managers and senior managers in the organisation.
Write from new and update procedures.
Have knowledge and experience of drafting risk assessments and method statements.
Liaise with a range of people, including employees, safety representatives and regulators in the process of evaluating workplaces.
Provide clear and accurate information on complex health and safety issues.
Train, coach, and mentor employees on industrial hygiene issues and control measures. 
Influence and persuade company management to develop effective hazard controls when required.
Provide expert witness services and support in the dealing with claims.
Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Your profile

Provide advice and guidance on Industrial Hygiene queries to employees, whether face to face or via electronic methods.
Work under their own initiative and without close personal supervision making decisions on all aspects of the role, taking responsibility for decisions made.
Use judgement and experience to manage incidents and problems, through dynamic risk assessment.
Taking, and passing on instructions from all levels of management.
Being resourceful when faced with communication issues.
Ensuring accurate information is passed between employees and management.
Using computer packages such as MS Office, Enablon, Go Arc, Pro-HSE and SAP to undertake tasks and record information.
Ability to deal with confidential employee information and keep that secure within the company and within GDPR Regs.
Interpreting and acting upon information given by way of oral/written communication, technical manuals, method statements & risk assessments and previous work reports.
Sourcing and distributing any information required to Employees, Supervisors and Managers.

Qualifications/ Certificates:

Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene - the highest professional occupational hygiene qualification. You'll need to have at least five years' experience and have either passed the Certificate qualification or a BOHS-accredited course (a minimum of W501, W502, W201, W503, W506 and W507)

Level 2 Skills for Life which incorporates:

Evidence of GCSE or equivalent/higher 

Risk management and control
Effective Communication Skills
IOSH Managing Safely
Computer skills – MS office, emails, SAP

Must hold or be willing to work towards the successful completion of all the required qualifications in a reasonable timescale
