As the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician, you will troubleshoot, diagnose and effectively repair machines, industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and process control equipment utilizing HART communicators, signal generators and multimeters.

 

ICL Specialty Fertilizers has a manufacturing plant in North Charleston, SC.  These facilities manufacture controlled-release fertilizer brands Osmocote®, Agroblen®, and Agrocote®.  This position does involve occasional overtime, weekend, and holiday coverage as well as providing shift coverage as necessary.

 

I’m interested! What will I get to do in this position? 

  • Work closely with engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, and HMI system issues.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation and electrical equipment to ensure they meet operational standards.
  • Calibrate and configure various instruments, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters, weigh scales, and control valves, to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and monitor variable frequency drives and servo control systems.
  • Provide relevant insight on new installations, upgrades, and modifications to instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Support outside resources for maintenance and repairs on Motor Control Centers, transformers, and other high voltage equipment outside of qualifications/limitations.
  • Utilizing a CMMS, maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance, and update maintenance logs, databases, and work with engineering to update any engineering drawings as required.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring that all work is performed safely, and that all equipment meets safety standards.
  • Act promptly during emergency situations to mitigate risks and restore equipment functionality.
  • Assist with repairs of mechanical equipment.
  • Operate machines from time to time for both troubleshooting and to supplement production requirements during busy periods.

What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role?

  • HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in a similar role -OR- a technical degree in an E&I related field with 3+ years of experience in a similar role is required
  • Understanding of electric motors and motor systems with essential electrical knowledge and troubleshooting ability for 480 VAC and lower utilizing tools such as multimeters, megohmmeter, clamp meters, etc.
  • Ability to read blueprints, control loop drawings and technical manuals for guidance when performing necessary operations for the installation and/or repair of equipment is required.
  • Fundamental mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting ability related to typical bulk material handling equipment, and fluid flow systems.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley hardware and software necessary
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and training in Electrical Safety NFPA-70E are preferred
  • Experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Ability to analyze data, diagnose issues, and develop effective solutions to ensure the reliability and efficiency of instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Relevant certifications in electrical or instrumentation technology, such as ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), are a plus.
  • A willingness to work shifts, overtime, and respond to emergency call-ins when required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, engineers, and management, as well as to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Capable of lifting at least 50 lbs., frequently walking up/downstairs and comfortable entering confined spaces & working at heights.


Salary Range: $28 - $38 per hour 


Annual Bonus Target: 5%, subject to plan provisions.
